I hope everyone is enjoying their summer in our beautiful state.

ASEM is working on the Fall Membership Dinner at Coral Gables.  Please plan to attend and bring a fellow NERE as a guest.  We have requested that Gretchen Whitmer be our speaker.  Her office will be reviewing October speaking requests in August.  Watch for more information to be sent out next month.

The input received from the membership survey was helpful.  Several people noted that they would rather have meetings in locations other than Coral Gables.  We have been looking at several options, but our October meeting will be at Coral Gables.  The spring membership meeting will be at a different location.

Remember that NERES are scheduled to receive a 3% pay increase in October 2017.

ASEM’s position statement needs to be submitted to the Office of State Employer in September for fiscal year 2019.  This position statement is given to the Coordinated Compensation Panel for their consideration to make a recommendation to Civil Service.  It is very important that we have a solid basis for what we are requesting.  If you have a suggestion, please contact me by August 18, 2017.

Some items we have requested in the past include:

  • Raises and lump sum payments
  • Develop a method with the Office of State Employer to inform state employees about ASEM
  • Pay for Performance is still available to Group 4 employees, if the department has the funding.  ASEM would like to have each department create a policy that states Group 4 employees, who are eligible for Pay for Performance, must meet and outline with their manager the expectations to earn Pay for Performance. Having the goals in writing prior to the Fiscal Year would ensure that the Pay for Performance program is handled in an equitable manner.  I have not heard from any ASEM members who have had an issue with Pay for Performance.

We have had several membership meetings with the Hantz Group.  Members have asked us to schedule different times and locations so members, and potential new members of ASEM, can attend.  Remember, as a member of ASEM you are entitled to a discount on services offered by the Hantz Group.

We have another ASEM membership meeting scheduled with the Hantz Group for Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 5:30 p.m.  The topic is Estate Planning.  The location is 3450 Alaiedon Parkway, Okemos, MI 48864.  Please RSVP to Todd Howard at 517-381-2381 x 2210.

We are also planning a meeting with the theme of Family Office, which will cover a variety of topics at Cadillac Place on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. This meeting will be at the Cadillac Place, 3026 West Grand Blvd, Detroit, MI in Conference Room 9-450.  Please RSVP to Janet Geisler at 248-304-2855 X 1421 for this event.  ASEM President Jennifer Fields will be at this meeting.

Thank you for being a member of ASEM.  Your efforts do make Michigan a great place to call home.
