Greetings ASEM Members:
Thank you for being a member of ASEM. I appreciate being able to talk to my peers and share our ideas and concerns. We all help to make Michigan a great place to live and to work.
We have been conducting outreach events for State employees who are eligible to join ASEM.
A targeted mailing was recently sent to all State NEREs to tell them about ASEM and the benefits of membership.
We were busy with Open Houses this past month. We met with folks in Lansing on February 16, 2017 and in Detroit on February 23, 2017. The Hantz Group was our guest speaker. These events were well attended. Future events hosted by the Hantz Group will be held in different locations throughout the State. Please watch our ASEM website for news about dates and locations.
We have had a few new members join and lots of interest. We will continue our outreach efforts. Please remember to let your co-workers know about the benefits of ASEM. New members are always welcome. Dues are still just $4.00 a pay period for active employees, $35.00 a year for retirees.
On March 9, 2017, I attended a committee hearing on amending PA 370. PA 370 requires that all State departments list their function, their department contact information and email address. The Act also requires a chart that lists the contact name for each major division. The proposed amendments would require the list to include all employee’s names, civil service designation and salary. I submitted our written objection to this bill. A copy of the proposed bill and ASEM response is attached.
Thank you again for all you do to serve our State. I hope to see you all soon.
